Our working bee last Saturday afternoon was a great success – We had a great turn up of dedicated parents! During the afternoon we re-edged a number of gardens, mulched garden beds, tidied up and cut back overgrown areas and planted new shrubs at the front of the school. It has really enhanced the school frontage.
Our annual Mother’s Day breakfast, held this morning, was a great event! I was pleased to see so many mums, and a few grandmothers, in attendance. Many thanks to our hardworking Parents & Friends members for their organisation and support of this day. Thank you also to James Toncinich, James Mani, Tony Arcaro, Corey Williams, Ash Wright and Glen Goes for the delicious pancakes they made, cooked and served to our fabulous mums and grandmas.
Thank you to the mums who bought stock, set up and ran the Mother’s Day stall for our students today, in particular Mel Mani, Maryanne Filippini, Elisa Bernardo, Belinda Callighan, Elizabeth Bonner, Jo Baldwin and Lucia Ravi-Pinto
I hope all mums enjoy their special presents from school.
The NAPLAN (National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy) tests are on next week. Our Grade 3 & Grade 5 students will undertake a Language conventions test – which incorporates spelling, grammar & writing on Tuesday, a Reading test on Wednesday, and a Numeracy test on Thursday. Good luck to all our students.
Our Middle school (Grades 3 and 4) swimming program begins in Week 5. (The week after next) This program, over 8 days, is a valuable opportunity to teach our children important survival skills. Our senior program held last term was very successful and we are anticipating a great response to the program for or middle school students. Care monkey permissions will go out early next week.
This term our Parents and Friends are organising a student disco. This event will be held on Thursday 6th June – (Week 7 of this term). The disco will commence and run from 5:00 p.m. – 6:15 p.m. (for Preps – Grade 2’s) then 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. (for Grades 3 – 6 students). Further details will follow.
A reminder re our school Uniform policy – A Flexibuzz was sent home earlier this week regarding expectations of all students. Please ensure your child/children are coming to school dressed in correct school uniform. With thanks.

Prayer for Mothers
Dear God, thank You for the gift of our Mothers! Thank You that our Mothers always believe in us, no matter what.
Thank You that they always trust, always hope, and always care - in short, they always love us, just like You!
Please bless our Mothers with the unmistakable gift of Your love, O Lord.
May each of them feel Your love in their hearts, Your peace in their minds, and Your joy in their spirits this day.
Through the intercession of our Blessed Mother Mary, we ask You to refresh our Mothers and fill them again with Your Holy Spirit.
May their families surround them and may their children rise up and call them blessed. In Jesus' name,
Sacrament of Reconciliation

Sufficient sleep, good nutrition and exercise are essential for all children.
Sometimes as parents we search for answers to our child's behaviours, when we may only need to look at the fundamentals.
An excellent starting point and to make a positive impact on a child's overall wellness, look at whether they are getting:

- Good nutrition and

Every Thursday at 2:30pm - Parents Welcome
A whole school assembly is held in the school hall every fortnight. Level assemblies are held on the other week.
Last year the Victorian Minister of Education has reviewed the Attendance Guidelines and accordingly schools must now notify parents/guardians of unexplained absences on the same day, as soon as practicable.
Some St Joachim’s parents may have received a phone call from our office staff to ask about unexplained absences.
It is now more important than ever that families notify us if your child is absent or will be late for school.
The easiest way to do this is by using the Flexibuzz App and using the ABSENCE tab. Alternatively parents can phone the school on 9785 2633.
We look forward to your co-operation in this very important matter.
Preschool Story Time
Every Friday at 3:00pm in the STAFF ROOM there is “Story Time” for our pre-school friends. This story time is open to all of our siblings who are coming to Foundation / Prep at St Joachim’s next year.
Thank you to families who keep their CareMonkey profiles up to date such as when they change their address, phone number, parents work contact details etc. If you could also email the email@example.com and let us know, we can adjust on our system as well.
St Joachim's U8s Panthers have a Special Visitor
This week, our St Joachim's Panthers U8's mixed Basketball team had a special training session with US Import player Najeal Young (Currently with Frankston District Basketball Association).
Najeal was a fantastic mentor to the children and taught them some valuable basketball skills! We look forward to seeing the kids put these to use in future games! Go Panthers!
Last week Shayarna from SKO had the opportunity to represent Australia at one of the biggest Classical Ballet Competitions in the world The Asian Grand Prix.
She didn’t place in the large section of international dancers but was excited to represent Australia. Well done Shayarna!
