Congratulation to our Swimmers who participated in the Frankston District Swimming Carnival Trials hosted at the Pines Aquatic Centre last Friday.

Principal’s Message

Dear Parents,

Thank you to Fr. Benneth, staff, students and parents who joined with us on Wednesday to celebrate a special Ash Wednesday Mass. As we begin the season of Lent we are called to repent and follow the Gospel and try to be more like Jesus. We are encouraged to do this through prayer, self-denial and giving to those less fortunate. Each class will have a Project Compassion money box during Lent, to receive donations to support the charity work of Caritas, the international Catholic Charity Agency.

Yesterday our middle and senior students participated in the “16 hands” incursion which introduced them to a thoroughbred horse. Our students learnt a lot about horses and how to care for them and were mesmerised by the docile and friendly nature of the horse.

Next week is Catholic Education week. The theme this year is “Growing young in Christ.” As always, Catholic Education week is an opportunity for us all to reflect on, and give thanks for, the many benefits a Catholic education provides for our students. As part of our Catholic Education week celebrations we have entered 2 student art pieces into the Catholic Education Week Visual Arts exhibition.

Best wishes to the 11 students representing St. Joachim’s at the divisional swimming competition at the Pines Aquatic Centre next Wednesday (13th March). Thank you to parents who are providing transport and supporting our swimmers on the day.

Thank you to the many families who have completed the ECSI (Enhancing Catholic School Identity) Survey. We still need more families to complete the survey so that we have a representative sample of parent views about our school’s Catholic identity. All families who complete the survey are encouraged to get a raffle ticket from the office and be in the draw for a $50 Bunnings voucher. The next draw will be held next Friday (15th March). Don’t miss out!

Thank you and congratulations to Tiffany Saleh (mum of Memphis JLM and Rubyrose MEB) who will join the School Advisory Board (SAB) this year. This means we now have 7 parent members of the Board.

A reminder about our school “Colour run” fundraiser. The colour run will be held on Friday 29th March. All students are encouraged to use the online portal to raise funds for our STEAM/robotics program. Every student who raises $10 or more will receive a prize. Please note: Parents are asked to provide a white t-shirt for their own child, or a coloured t-shirt if your child is asthmatic (or for any other reason) you prefer that the colours not be thrown near them.

Next Monday (11th March) is a public holiday for Labour Day. As such the school will be closed on Monday. I hope all students, families and staff enjoy the long weekend.

Unexplained Absences

Last year the Victorian Minister of Education has reviewed the Attendance Guidelines and accordingly schools must now notify parents/guardians of unexplained absences on the same day, as soon as practicable.

Some St Joachim’s parents may have received a phone call from our office staff to ask about unexplained absences.

It is now more important than ever that families notify us if your child is absent or will be late for school.

The easiest way to do this is by using the Flexibuzz App and using the ABSENCE tab. Alternatively parents can phone the school on 9785 2633.

We look forward to your co-operation in this very important matter.

Preschool Story Time

Every Friday at 3:00pm in the STAFF ROOM there is “Story Time” for our pre-school friends. This story time is open to all of our siblings who are coming to Prep at St Joachim’s next year.

Every Thursday at 2:30pm - Parents Welcome

A whole school assembly is held in the school hall every fortnight. Level assemblies are held on the other week.

Colour Fun Run

We’ve had a great response so far for the Colour Fun Run but with less than half of the school actually registered we can do so much better.

Please parents register your kids so that they can get involved and be a part of this awesome event.

Each child registered who raises at least $10 is eligible to win a prize of their choice.

What do students wear to the School Fun Run

For the actual event day all the kids have to wear is a plain white T-shirt and any colour shorts or tracksuit pants.

For kids who want to run but don’t want to have colour thrown at them can wear a coloured T-shirt so the people throwing the powder can identify them easily.

Any questions please ask any member of the P&F or your year level rep.

We are fundraising for STEAM (Science, Technology, English, Arts and Maths) equipment and Robotics. All will be purchased next term for immediate use by all students.

To REGISTER your child for this fun, worthwhile event, please go to

Information regarding the Fun Run can be found here. We will be adding any more information we receive as it becomes available.

Zooper Doopers

Zooper Doopers are still being sold every Thursday until the end of term.

Parent helpers still required, please use signup sheet to volunteer.

“St. Jo’s Musos”

Recorder & Ukulele Club

Every Monday this term during morning recess, a group of enthusiastic music students have been having fun in the Performing Arts room practising their recorders and ukuleles. It has been wonderful to see some of our Grade 6 leaders teaching the younger students how to play the instruments, passing on their musical skills and knowledge. Well done to Ezekiel and Lucinda, our Performing Arts Leaders, for their musical leadership this term. Thank you also to Chantalle, Aidan, Daniel, Leonie, Danny, Madison, Lily and Ella for their teaching assistance and encouragement of the younger students.
