St Anne and St Joachim's Feast Day.
We celebrate the grandparents of Jesus and all grandparents!
Paul Dwyer, Principal
Last week I attended a conference focused on learning more about indigenous perspectives. This important professional learning opportunity was timely, given this year has been designated as the year of Indigenous languages, and St. Joachim’s School membership of the Bunurong schools cluster (a group of 8 local Catholic schools committed to strengthening learning and acknowledgement of Aboriginal perspectives). In addition, this year St. Joachim’s has initiated a Fire Carrier program in the school. This program is running in many schools and the FIRE acronym stands for Friends Igniting Reconciliation through Education. Last term we commissioned 8 of our own fire carrier students who will take a leadership role in this area in our school. We have also been invited to an official fire carrier commissioning ceremony as part of our membership of the Bunurong schools' cluster. This will take place at 11:00am on Thursday 8th August at St. Augustine’s School (88 Golf Links Rd, Frankston South VIC 3199).
Thank you to the many students, staff, parents and grandparents of both St. Joachim’s and St. Anne’s schools who contributed to a fabulous Feast Day celebration today. The focus of our celebrations were on grandparents (as St. Joachim and St. Anne are the grandparents of Jesus). We celebrated a special Mass with Fr. Benneth, and students from both schools played together at recess and shared a combined activity before returning to school. A special thank you to our mums from the Parents and Friends Association; Mel Mani, Anita Klarica Tanya Petersen and Mary Banyari (grandmother of Dymitrius, Bailey and Leilani) for organising and running a delicious morning tea for our parents and grandparents (and our staff!).
Our Middle school students really enjoyed their excursion to Cranbourne Botanical gardens on Wednesday this week. This was in connection to their inquiry theme this term on “Life” (see photos further on in this newsletter).
Please note: Our next SAB (School Advisory Board) meeting will be held next Thursday evening (1st August) at 7:00 p.m. in the staffroom.
Next Friday (2nd August) we are proudly celebrating 100 days of Prep. It has been amazing to see the growth in learning, confidence and skills that our Preps have shown in this time!
A reminder that we have two School closure days coming up this term. They are on Friday 9th August (2020 school review preparation) and Monday 12th August (Religious Education).
We are really looking forward to our Family Maths afternoon, which will be held on Wednesday 14th August, from 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Further details will follow shortly.

Please notify the school of any absences prior to 9:00am on the day of the absence. The easiest way to do this is via the FLEXIBUZZ App.
Last year the Victorian Minister of Education has reviewed the Attendance Guidelines and accordingly schools must now notify parents/guardians of unexplained absences on the same day, as soon as practicable.
Some St Joachim’s parents may have received a phone call from our office staff to ask about unexplained absences. It is now more important than ever that families notify us if your child is absent or will be late for school.
The easiest way to do this is by using the Flexibuzz App and using the ABSENCE tab.
We look forward to your co-operation in this very important matter.
Father's Day Breakfast - Aug 23 Father's Day Stall - Aug 30
We have a busy few months planned at St Joachim's, therefore we've had to move some dates around to make it easier on our students, parents and staff. Both occasions will be special!

On Friday July 26th, we celebrated our Parish Feast Day – the Feast of St Anne and St Joachim.
Both Parish schools came together to celebrate Mass, to honour our grandparents and their contribution to our lives. The children enthusiastically participated through their prayers, singing and few students reflected on the significant role of grandparents. It was wonderful to have so many parents, grandparents and visitors join us on the day. After Mass, St Anne’s and St Joachim’s students had an amazing time, as they got to participate in fun activities together. It was a wonderful day, filled with joy, laughter and silent reflection of the blessing of grandparents.

The Resilience Project.
Students at St Joachim's have begun the term with an introduction to the themes outlined in the Resilience Project:
Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness and Emotional Literacy.
Some examples include MEB students looking at their own character strengths.
Junior classes have been reflecting on what they are grateful for in their lives. They have created a gratitude wall in each class. Here are some examples of what the student wrote from JJW.
