What a fantastic Fathers’ Day breakfast we had this morning! It was great to see so many dads enjoying a delicious breakfast with their children. This special time was reflected in the smiles, laughter and conversations between dads and their children. A huge thank you to Tanya Petersen and Mel Mani, along with a willing band of helpers from our Parents and Friends group, who worked hard to plan, organise and deliver another memorable St. Joachim’s Fathers’ Day breakfast.
This week I visited the venue for our Senior camp this term, Phillip Island Adventure Resort. The camp will be held from Wednesday 18th September to Friday 20th September (3 days, 2 overnights). I was impressed by the facilities, cleanliness and professionalism of the camp’s organisation. I look forward to our Grade 5 and 6 students enjoying the many fun activities and learning experiences this outdoor adventure camp will provide. Please ensure medical details etc are updated in your child’s Care Monkey profile. With thanks.
Our Senior school production of “Rock Starz” is on next Week! Our first show is on next Wednesday 28th August and our second and final show is on Thursday 29th August. Tickets are still available! Both performances will take place at Cranbourne Community Theatre, which is onsite at Cranbourne Secondary College, Brunt Street, Cranbourne, 3977. Senior students are asked to be at the venue by 6:00 p.m. ready for a 7:00 p.m. show. I’m looking forward to a fabulous night’s entertainment from our senior students!
The next SAB (School Advisory Board) meeting will be held on the evening of Thursday September 5th. At this meeting our architects will present an update of our school Master Plan, outlining stage 1 of our proposed works to enhance the school.
On Friday September 6th our Middle school (Grade 3 & 4) parents are warmly invited to a STEAM celebration. This day will allow our Grade 3 & 4 students to showcase and celebrate the skills and knowledge they have acquired in STEAM lessons this year. I hope lots of parents can be here on this day to share in the celebration with their children.
Thank you to the many parents from our Parents and Friends group who are continuing to source donations and finalise plans to ensure our Trivia night will be a great success. It will be held in the hall on Saturday September 7th from 7:00 p.m. Have you booked at ticket yet? The challenge will be to see who can beat the staff table!
Some advance notice that our Mini Vinnies fete will be held on Tuesday September 10th from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. in the hall. The rationale for this is for students and families to participate in a variety of fun activities to raise funds to support our social justice initiatives. Monies raised will go to our parish St. Vincent DePaul conference who support disadvantaged people and families in our local community. Please save your coins, and thank you in advance for your support of this worthwhile initiative.

Please notify the school of any absences prior to 9:00am on the day of the absence. The easiest way to do this is via the FLEXIBUZZ App.
Last year the Victorian Minister of Education has reviewed the Attendance Guidelines and accordingly schools must now notify parents/guardians of unexplained absences on the same day, as soon as practicable.
Some St Joachim’s parents may have received a phone call from our office staff to ask about unexplained absences. It is now more important than ever that families notify us if your child is absent or will be late for school.
The easiest way to do this is by using the Flexibuzz App and using the ABSENCE tab.
We look forward to your co-operation in this very important matter.

Author of the Week
Audrey - JLM
Our Junior school students have recently been on an excursion to Moonlit Sanctuary. Audrey has written a diary entry which is a recount of her day. The students have been working on extending their writing by including how they felt about their experiences. Students are also encouraged to use a variety of sentence starters so that their writing becomes more interesting and less repetitive.
